in running

I went for my longest run in this training season yesterday. 32 kilometers. That is a big number. It’s been almostĀ  a year since my three stress fractures training for the same marathon last spring. This time around i have been more careful. Two years into running and i’ve learned a few things. Sometimes less is better. I only run four days a week. Three of those runs are less than 90 minutes and i save my legs for the long run. It seems to be paying off.

Although i felt like crap for the last five kilometers yesterday i woke up this morning feeling tired, but not sore or stiff. Progress!

By the time i run the BMO Vancouver marathon in five weeks i will have been training for it for the better part of two years. I’m pretty sure i will only do the one marathon. The time involved is just too much for this working mother of four. My days off are consumed by running and i end up feeling overwhelmed with all the other stuff i need to take care of.

I’m excited to kick this item off my bucket list and return to a somewhat normal life and then the epic craziness of working in a wine country destination during tourist season.

Nice work on 32km. One more long run before the race, or was this it? I agree about the less is better. I often wish I’d run fewer miles, saving my knees for the longer runs. I think I’d have done fewer LONG runs too…I don’t think doing 19 and 20 miles was that necessary for 26. Not for just finishing, at least.

I can’t wait until you get this one checked off…it seems like it’s been a long time coming! I’m also a “one and done” marathoner…my knee still isn’t quite the same, but I’m happy that I did it. :) Maybe after your marathon you’ll shift into cycling like I am. LOL

I am impressed at the 32km! I find even “short” long runs are hard with kids and I don’t even have a marathon on my agenda yet. I know the training would be hard to get in. I hope you have an awesome race at the BMO Marathon :)
