Having had a four year reprieve from any major allergic reactions in Eliza it was a frightening weekend of emergency room visits and hives the size of baseballs all over her body. When i picked her up from school on friday her torso was covered in angry welts. We had no idea then what she ate that caused the reaction and four days later we still have no idea. She is on a high dose of prednisone that is slowly working, though she continues to break out in new hives.
1. benadryl.
2. caring teachers that keep a very close eye on my daughter.
3. family doctors that bump us to the head of the line on our third visit to emergency.
4. getting to spend large amounts of time with my beautiful, youngest daughter who's calmness amazes me.
5. coming home from the hospital to find three goats grazing in the yard.

Poor Eliza! I’ve been thinking about her all weekend. Is it possible one of her classmates drank out of her water bottle? I made that mistake once with Genoa’s infant dairy allergy (I took a swig of Alex’s water bottle after he’d eaten birthday cake) and we paid for it all night.
I get hives almost every day, albeit definitely not the size of baseballs, and I find Zyrtec to work better, faster and with fewer side effects than Benadryl. Do they prescribe that for kids?
I hope she feels better soon!
That sounds like a very scary weekend. I hope she feels better soon. I know as a parent I would be terrified in that type of situation. I commend you on your bravery.
Ohhh, scary scary allergies. Brave brave girl. I hope it gets better soon.
Hope she’s doing better and that life goes back to normal soon.
Scary! I’m glad that she’s getting better, and I hope the speed has picked up some since you last wrote. I can’t even imagine hives that large. Poor kid. Is it possible that she’ll be able to outgrow some of her allergies?
Not knowing what causes it is the absolute worst, isn’t it?
So glad things are okay.
