the flu will take all your worries away

in messy days

The stomach flu is taking down my children like dominoes. Each falling about twelve hours apart.
I don't really mind. Other than the mountains of laundry and their sad little faces, it's nice to take a step back from the hustle and bustle of our lives.
I did, however, learn that there are some foods you should definitely not feed your children when barfiness is on the horizon, they are in no particular order:

  • chili
  • chocolate
  • ceasar salad
  • blue jello
  • chocolate pudding
  • any combination of, or at all costs, all of these at the same time.

How your family feels well soon – the flu sucks the most for big families, especially the whole barfing thing

eeewwwww!!!
When I think of becoming a parent, Vomit is the single most frightening thing I can think of when I think of the things I will have to deal with.
Teenaged sex? No problem.
Driver’s license? Bring it.
Bile? I’ll be under the bed.

You do know there is no such thing as the stomach flu? It is probably some form of food poisoning, I am sorry to say. Have they been eating anything that sat out for more than 4 hours or took a long time to cool down in the fridge? Is it possible that other foods got cut on the same board as raw meat? Did you eat out somewhere? It could be anything. It sucks, I know. Pedialyte is good in these situations as soon as they can keep something down. It will replace the electrolytes their bodies need. Even for older kids.
Also, the BRAT diet – banana rice, applesauce, toast helps to bring an end to the diarrhea.

Ack -
there is nothing better than when they get old enough to go puke on their own, in the toilet…but I know what you mean about the step back.

ugh… the “sickups” as we call them here are no fun! We just recently went through that ourselves… seems like everyone is. Hope it passes quickly and that YOU don’t get it too!

Ugh, I couldn’t help but picture the vomit those foods would produce.
Hope they’re better soon.

So a blue jello-chocolate pudding trifle topped with chili is out of the question? Good luck with all that laundry.

Aye sister. “Remember Jan ’05″ is the slogan in our house to avoid the dreaded rotavirus. Good luck. Hope you are not struck!
