help needed for failed geekdom

October 24, 2006

in bloggy crushes

As it was my birthday recently and nobody bothered to get me anything and i was feeling depressed anyway i went out and bought myself a gift.
A very expensive gift.
A sony digital video camera with a built in 30g hard drive. Yowza.
But, and this is a question for all you apple computer superheroes, i can't figure out how to upload the video to my computer.
The camera seems to be trying to talk to my camera, but i get nothing.
Nothing.
And here i have this exhilirating five minute video of me wandering around my house and yard introducing y'all to everybody. Even the chickens. Chickens!
Can anybody help me. I feel like such a loser.

Make room for me, because I’m an a/v geek too. It took me six hours, four phone calls, and a temper tantrum to hook up my Canon to my mac.
Yes, I know I’m a poser.
But I can’t wait till you get it figured out because then I can mine your brain when I get mine!

I asked my husband the computer god, and he said “check in the manual that came with it”. Isn’t that helpful?
Did the camera come with a cable that connects the camera to the computer? That’s all I can think of, sorry. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!

I hate to sound like Elizabeth’s husband, but that was my first thought too – the manual has got to have some info.
I’d give specific help, but this video uploading/editing business is Kyle’s job at our house. Which would explain why we have a shitload of gadgets and not a single freakin’ DVD of the girls.
And happy birthday Jess!

When it comes to things like this I always come up empty-handed. So sorry, I’m no help.
But I wanted to wish you a belated happy birthday. :)

Sorry I can’t help with the camera, we are just in the process of buying one ourselves so I’ll be excited to see how you like yours.
Also, I can’t wait to see the chickens!

Okay, I’m going to offer a possible solution, only because I’ve been in a similar situation. Could it be a certain mode that your camera has to be in for the computer to recognize it?
My camera had to be in the ‘photo display’ mode, and not ‘photo taking’ mode for me to upload my pictures. Maybe?

Chickens are great. Video is great. Birthdays are greater.
Alas, I have no wisdom.

If you’re using iMovie and a Sony camera, you should just be able to connect the camera and laptop via a firewire cable, open iMovie, and be sure you have the camera set to VCR mode and turned on. iMovie should recognize the camera and allow you to import the video from there.

Okay, so this camera uses a USB cable. I have an older iMovie. Should i update my system? The camera talks to the computer, but never transfers any information. It just gets stuck at “connecting”
I am so frustrated. I’m usually really good at this stuff. The manual is absolutely no help.

Hi. Do what you feel in your heart to be right – for you’ll be criticized anyway. You’ll be damned if you do, and damned if you don’t. Help me! Need information about: Tanning beds damage. I found only this – wholesale tanning bed. You can buy lighting systems for under bucks to cope with biological. Whether you need older base level equipment, or newer high end equipment, we are confident that we. With respect , Panya from Arab.
